Q: What is BYTubeD?
A: BYTubeD is a Firefox extension to download YouTube videos in bulk. It can be used to download all/selected YouTube videos on any page which has some links to YouTube videos, by clicking the BYTubeD menu item in the Tools menu or in the context menu (i.e., the right-click menu). It becomes particularly handy in downloading YouTube playlist. BYTubeD can be downloaded from here.

Q: How do I invoke BYTubeD?
A: There are atleast 2 ways to invoke BYTubeD:
  • Right click and then click on BYTubeD
  • Click on the Tools -> BYTubeD menu item

Q: How do I select the videos to download?
A: Either enter an appropriate selection filter in the Selection Filter field, or select the titles manually by holding Ctrl key while selecting the individual titles. Use Ctrl+A to select all.

Q: How does the selection filter work?
A: The selection filter understands JavaScript regular expressions. If you are not familiar with JavaScript regular expressions, just enter some text and all the titles that have this text as a substring will be selected. In case you don't understand this substring business, the easiest option is to select the videos manually.

Q: What does MP4 > FLV mean?
A: MP4 > FLV means that you would like to download the videos in MP4 format if they are available in MP4 format. If they are not available in MP4 format, then BYTubeD will try to fetch them in FLV format.

Q: I have selected the videos to be downloaded. Then what?
A: Click "Start" or press ENTER.

Q: Ok! Then what happens?
A: Depending on the value of the "What to do?" field, BYTubeD will either start generating video links or it will start enqueueing the requested videos into Firefox's Downloads window. Once the process of enqueueing/generating is completed, the Downloads window or the generated links window will popup. Now you can close the BYTubeD queueing status window.

Q: Can I use a download manager like DownThemAll to better manage my downloads?
A: Yes! Starting from version 1.0.4, BYTubeD provides a way of using your favorite download managers to better manage downloads.

Q: Oh! That's great! How do I use my favorite download manager with BYTubeD?
A: On the selection window (i.e., the first window that you see when you invoke BYTubeD), select "Generate Links" for "What to do?". Now when you say Start, BYTubeD will generate all the downloadable video links in a new window, where you can invoke your favorite download manager.

Q: I don't want to see too many error report requests. Can I suppress them?
A: Yes. In the Preferences tab of the selection window, check the "Suppress error messages..." checkbox.

Q: I am not able to download certain videos with BYTubeD. It says "Embedding disabled by request. Watch on YouTube". What should I do?
A: Now that problem has been fixed. Get the latest version. With the latest version you can download almost any YouTube video.

whats the best setting to always select the highest quality video no matter what? I dont care if its flv or mp4, i care about the highest video and audio quality.

Running firefox 6 and bytubed 1.0.5

Can't get it to work correctly for me after the update.

So this is what I've always done and it's worked.

I would play my playlist, run bytubed, it would pick up all of the videos in my playlist..viola everything worked.

Now when I run Bytubed, it picks up all of the videos from whoses ever playlist I originally added it to my playlist.

Example:

Search for beethoven song, search results bring up a video that is in someone elses playlist, I click on that video and add it to my playlist. Now the problem is that when that(or any song) is currently on, I can only download the videos from that persons beefoven list, not from my own.

I've been trying to download a lot of videos from a user. 500+, but the links seem to expire after a certain time. Any way to prevent them from doing so? It's annoying to keep creating a new list. The error i keep getting is 403.

I'm getting multiple errors on certain videos (songs) that say I there is an age restriction when there is none. I'm logged in and it does not make a difference

This is really a outstanding extension!!

I have been spending a LOT of time (did not count the many hours, but surely a few working days in total) on trying to find a suitable bulk downloader, that is to say capable to download playlist.

Have tried out quite a number of standalone applications and actually bought a few ones as well.
None of them can handle playlists but cud download queue-lists though.
However, as time passed by, the programs encountered issues that could not be solved by the support.
For example: whilst downloading a queue-list one program actually downloaded the commercials at the beginning of each video (support confirmed this could not be solved), another application when downloading a few videos caused all Internet-traffic to freeze (after endless communication, support could not solve that either).
Waste of money.

It is just wonderful to see something working without fail!

p.s. hope many more people will donate as well...

Is it possible to make custom choice of quality... say I choose720p. if 720p is available then download it , elseif download 480p, else 360p.

I love your plugin, but have started getting messages from Firefox asking me to upgrade to FF 9.0.1. I've had YT downloaders break after upgrading FF, so I wondered if BYTubeD is compatible? Thanks, and keep up the great work!

BYTubeD is a very effective tool we can used to download YouTube videos. The advantage of this is that you can download the videos in a bulk. It is very easy and fast, and gives you good results. I am using this tool from long time without any errors. I will suggest this one for guys who do multiple downloads everyday.
