[BYTubeD] New version has been uploaded

New version (1.0.4) has been uploaded on addons.mozilla after the fixes for the latest problems caused by the changes made by YouTube to their code. However, it still needs to undergo editor reviews. Meanwhile users can install the new version (1.0.4) from the BYTubeD versions page. Please see the FAQ page for usage related details.

  1. Thank you for the quick update to the recent changes. Especially with the link generation :)
I have noticed a few things though. When I go to a user's profile to download their videos, it doesn't display the correct titles (just a bunch of numbers and a dash) so to work around it I would open each new video I want to get to their own tab and capture them there. But this generates a new window with a single link for each video. Is it possible to open them in a tab instead?.
Also is it possible to pass the download location you set in the add-on over to the download manager? I have mine set to a subfolder but download them all is set to another folder which the videos end up in. This is very minor issue though. Nevertheless, thank you for the add-on.

    Hi,

The number that you see for title is actually the video id of that video. Ideally, such things automatically get converted to the actual title. If they are not automatically getting converted to meaningful titles, then please post the details of the user profile and the videos that you wanted to try BYTubeD on. If you don't want to post those details here on the bolg for any reason, please send them as a mail to bytubed [at] gmail . com. Probably I missed something, I will try to fix it.

It is not possible to pass the download location from BYTubeD to other download managers because I don't have control over the code that somebody else has written. And secondly the number of download managers that one can use is not bounded. Practically I can't sit and add a fix to work with each download manager. :) I think this is not really a serious issue, because one can set both BYTubeD and one's favorite download mangers to have the same destination directory. And doing so is a one time job mostly. At least with BYTubeD, you won't have to change it again and again to point to the same location. Or in the worst case, one may have to move files between directories. The number of clicks is still O(1) I guess! :D

    Thanks,
    Ram

  3. Hi, thanks for the quick response.
    http://www.youtube.com/user/MRbizbabo
is one of the profile that the first problem occurs on. It also has another problem where I can't download the video because it is "Embedding disabled by request. Watch on YouTube.", but I'm not sure whether downloading is not possible by design.
    Cheers.

    Hi,

I invoked BYTubeD on the page you gave, and I got this. I don't see any issue with that. Are you not seeing the same results?

And regarding "Embedding disabled...", probably such videos are protected from being downloaded by some kind of downloaders such as BYTubeD. For such videos YouTube returns a "fail" status to the script along with a reason which is being displayed to the users. I have to dig into the details to let myself and you know more.

  5. Hi

Unfortunately I don't get the same screenshot as yours. Mine looks like > http://d.imagehost.org/0951/BYTubeD.jpg

That's surprising. I don't understand why the initial digits like "10 - 24" are appearing. As another try, can you try selecting "Generate Links" for "What to do?" field, then select all and click Start and see if you get the actual titles?

  7. Because of the embedding issue the link generation doesn't work for that page, but for another page where it will work but still has the title problem still generates the link as:

1 downloadable video link has been generated.
Invoke a download manager, such as DownThemAll, on this page to download these videos.

    1. 0 - 06 Add to Added to queue .mp4

Do you want me to uninstall and re-install it again to see if it helps?

  8. Yes, you can try that. But I am not sure if that really helps. More helpful would be to try installing it on a fresh Firefox profile (run "firefox -P" and create a new profile).

  9. Created a new profile and I've now got the same screenshot as you did. I guess I'll just have to figure out if it's a addon conflict or a dodgy profile file.

Wow! That's a good news. Now my strongest belief is that some of the variables in my code are probably assuming the values of the variables in other addons. I will try to make the required changes soon. Thanks for the reports.
